About

Meet Wilmington Vegan

Wilmington Vegan was founded in 2011 by longtime vegan Sue Cag. The group is dedicated to providing resources and information for experienced vegans, new vegans, or simply the veg-curious. Our goal is to cultivate a vibrant local community. Our Facebook page, which has grown to over 4,000 members, is the primary place where locals can share ideas, ask questions, and learn about vegan options in the greater Wilmington, NC area.

What is a vegan?
A vegan is someone who consumes no animal products including flesh, fish, dairy, eggs, or honey. Vegans also avoid fur, leather, and wool as these products involved the confinement, abuse, and slaughter of animals. Broadly, being vegan means trying to live your life in a thoughtful, compassionate manner by taking non-human animals, the planet, health, and other humans into consideration when making choices about what to use and consume.

What we do

Wilmington Vegan hosts potluck gatherings, carrot mobs, and vegan makers’ markets. We also publish a Dining & Community Guide to inform members about vegan-friendly local eateries, businesses, organizations, and sanctuaries. And we engage in activism to promote compassion, health, and a clean environment.
